Brazil’s Fuels of the Future Bill (Federal Law No. 14,993/2024), enacted on October 8, 2024, establishes national programs to promote renewable fuels-including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and green diesel-regulates carbon capture and storage (CCS), and sets new blending mandates for ethanol in gasoline (22–35%) and biodiesel in diesel (20% by 2030), with targets such as requiring airlines to use at least 1% SAF by 2027 and 10% by 2037. This law replaces Bill No. 528/2020 by expanding its scope beyond initial proposals, providing Brazil’s first comprehensive legal framework for CCS, integrating multiple national decarbonization programs, and setting enforceable targets and regulatory oversight for the transition to low-carbon fuels.
