The Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI) is funding upgrades to help social housing residents access the benefits of the energy transformation.
SHEPI is delivering a range of upgrade types, including: thermal shell upgrades such as shading and insulation, installation of efficient electric appliances such as heating and cooling, hot water systems, ovens and cooktops, solar systems such as solar panels and batteries. The Australian Government is investing $800 million to co-fund the $1.1 billion SHEPI program in partnership with all state and territory governments.
The government announced its initial $300 million investment as part of the $1.7 billion Energy Savings Package in the 2023-24 Budget. On 30 November 2024, it announced an additional $500 million over 4 years from 2025-26.
