The Future Home Standard (FHS) introduces a range of new measures and regulations with the aim of increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The new building regulation is expected for early 2026, after a consultation process. Technical specifications were published in the autumn 2024.
According to preliminary information, the FHS will include stricter CO2 standards for new builts, improve the energy assessment methodology (Home Energy Model, HEM), require the installation of heat pumps and PV panels (solar mandate), while new fossil fuel heasting systems will no longer be compliant. It is expected that the Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) will also be revised.
