The overall aim is to promote the purchase of EVs and the development of infrastructure, so that 30% of vehicles on the roads by 2030 are EVs. The programme is implemented by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). In 2018, EESL proposed a tender for 10,000 EVs and renewed the tender in 2019. Aided by those 20,000 vehicles, India is expected to save over 50 million litres of fuel/year, leading to a reduction of 560 000 tCo2 emission.
