Long-term roadmap for the sustainable development of Chile’s mining sector, which is integral to its economy. The policy includes a target to reduce emissions from large mining operations by at least 50% by 2030, and become a carbon neutral sector by 2040. It also sets renewable electricity procurement targets, aiming for 90% of electricity contracts to come from renewable sources by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Measures include the electrification of mining equipment, adoption of green hydrogen technologies, and energy efficiency improvements in operations. The Ministry of Mining is responsible for the plan’s monitoring and implementation, and is directed to establish scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reduction targets that align with Chile’s 2030 NDC commitment.
