A 5% annual reduction in CO2-equivalent per mile for passenger cars from 2017 to 2025. New fleet average GHG limits for light trucks tighten 3.5% per year from 2017 to 2021 and 5% per year from 2022 to 2025.

In February 2026, the government announced to repeal the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, which is to be replaced by stricter GHG emission standards. These standards aim to put Canada on a path to achieve a goal of 75% EV sales by 2035 and 90% EV sales by 2040.
